The Manga Flute overture animation
A young prince, lost in a world where magical monsters menace and the powers of night and day wrestle for domination, strikes out to save a princess... Is this a story torn from the pages of a comic book? Well, we imagined that it could be! The fantastical world of manga comic art will come to life in this brand new production in a new interpretation by the incredible David Scott Marley (whose work you may remember from Berkeley Opera's Riot Grrrl on Mars and Bat Out of Hell) featuring the mercurial Eugene Brancoveanu as the colorful and flighty Papageno!
Mozart's music sparkles in a new arrangement for wind instruments in Viennese popular style of the 1780's, by Christopher Fecteau.
• Approximate running time: 2 hours 35 minutes including one intermission
• Sung in English with English supertitles
• Pre-performance lecture in the library beginning 45 mins prior to curtain
Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday morning! Set your clocks ahead an hour and don't be late to the opera!
